As many of you know by now, I did not place in the runoff for Assembly District #25 in the primary election on March 3rd, 2020.
It has been my dream to serve in the California Legislature for many years. The opportunity to run for this office in 2020 was unexpected by many. I have and continue to be so very “Ready to Work” on the educational issues that are so important to our students. In particular, restoring direct funding to Career Technical Education Centers like our SVCTE/SVAE MetroEd Campus in San Jose which profoundly changes the future for our students each and every day.
I want to thank the many Angels who endorsed, supported, donated, volunteered, advised and walked for this campaign with so much dedication.
We are so very grateful to everyone for your steadfast support!
And yes, you can still contribute to our campaign through our ActBlue and Anedot links below to help us close out our campaign debt remaining on the books.
I have served on the Governing Board of the Santa Clara Unified School District for 27 years and the MetroEd Governing Board for 17 years. I have represented the Santa Clara Unified School District on the MetroEd Governing Board for many years. These CTE programs change our student's lives, empowering them to not just survive but thrive in the Silicon Valley! As a California Assembly District 25 candidate 2020, I pledge to prioritize CTE funding throughout California. The affordability crisis in Silicon Valley also breaks families apart. As a California Assembly District 25 candidate 2020, I also pledge to preserve & protect existing affordable housing neighborhoods & communities. The only way to resolve the affordability issue is to increase our housing supply throughout AD25. As a SCUSD Governing Board member, I was a strong advocate for the implementation of one of the nation's first successful teacher housing projects [created by former SCUSD Superintendent Paul Perotti] which has been a model for the nation.
As a California Assembly District 25 candidate 2020, I pledge to do more to help support truly smart growth framed by transportation infrastructure capacity, thoughtful strategic regional planning & tax incentives for living closer to our jobs. The picture above is highway 237 which illustrates the need for truly smart regional growth strategies. SB50 started the conversation. However, the path forward requires a hybrid approach combining a bottom up strategy with Sacramento establishing the template that brings all of the stakeholders needed for truly smart growth strategies to be developed & implemented [including reviewing & updating CEQA as needed]. As a California Assembly District 25 candidate 2020, I pledge to recognize and reward the environmental leaders in our communities throughout AD25. The Joint Venture Silicon Valley initiative Climate Prosperity illustrates how climate change solutions begin at home and can be great for business too. Let's keep Silicon Valley a beautiful place to call home. With our close access to so many incredible outdoor activities, we need to secure these beautiful open spaces not only for ourselves, but also for the amazing natural world all around us here in the Silicon Valley. As a SCUSD Governing Board member, I supported my fellow SCUSD Governing Board member Teresa O'Neill's efforts to establish our district's Organic Farm which now educates and feeds our students and the community we serve. Environmental Responsibility and Economic Prosperity go hand in hand!
AD25 has so many beautiful places to ride! I have participated in numerous charity century rides & ride every chance I get. I'm a huge fan of the Tour of California & Tour de France! As a California Assembly District 25 candidate 2020, I pledge to support the work of the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition & Safe Routes to Schools!
My Wife [CSEA member], Daughter [works as a Teachers Aide], Son & myself enjoy a Wonderful Family Life with our many pets [consider pet adoption below]. I am a small business Owner & former Teamster. I have served on the Santa Clara Unified School District & MetroEd Governing Boards for many years. I have a passion for Career Technical Education and how it profoundly changes the lives of our students! Through my public service to the Santa Clara Unified School District as a Governing Board member, I have been an advocate for Class Size Reduction [before it was mandated by Sacramento] and supported the creation of one of the nation's first successful teacher housing projects. I strongly supported establishing our innovative K-8 Don Callejon Campus at Rivermark along with significantly upgrading and improving the district's school facilities for the 21st Century by supporting Measures B, J, H 2010, H 2014, the Parcel Tax and Measure BB. Thanks to the support of Measure BB exciting new construction is moving forward throughout our district including our Laurelwood Elementary Campus. It was also my honor to travel to China with a SCUSD delegation in order to establish a Student Exchange program.
I am very proud of the 3 new schools [Elementary, Middle & High School] that the Santa Clara Unified School District is building on the Agnews Property in North San Jose. I have worked tirelessly with local and state legislators including Assembly Member Kansen Chu and State Senator Bob Wieckowski whose stedfast support made it possible for the school district to purchase the Agnews property. This has been a 15 year process that is the result of many dedicated individuals. These 3 new schools will accommodate the increased student growth in Trustee Area #1 where I live and serve on the Governing Board. I have fought for these new schools every step of the way. I see things through. I work until the job is done!
